After we understand the concept of rest within the Sabbath we need to understand that it is more than that. Sabbath is rest, but not only rest. God commands us to keep the Sabbath holy. He also tells us in todays scripture that it is a gift to us. To understand this gift more fully we will look at the Sabbath year in Leviticus. Within this concept we will discover the underlying principle of the Sabbath's holiness is a recognition of the fact that all we are and have comes from a total dependence upon God. The Sabbath reminds us that He is our provider. Peter tells us to "cast all of our cares upon Him." Sabbath teaches us to do just that.
